My room has been checked out as acoustically suitable and has a good enough system to drive them !

The variable magnet power appears to work differently to that on the Grande Utopia and this we hope to explore with some interest

It also has very comprehensive user install adjustment which fine tuning for audio system and location can significantly enhance the value proposition.

Also if you swap out gear, the speaker may be rebalanced for the changes.

If I had the time and money "Giant speaker MKII" would be based on multiple Field Coil bass units and big!!

I was going to mention about real world products. I think we need the mix of real and high end stuff. I am not sure what the reader of the the Critic is out to buy or is it read about? I like a mix of state of the art and stuff I can afford- A job in audio will never make me richGlare

I agree, a mix of state of the art and things we might actually buy is what's needed. But that is what we've been getting, isn't it, so the eds are pitching it right.

On the analog front, i'd be keen to hear views/thoughts on the Brinkmann Bardo/ Kuzma 4point combination. Even better if it has a MY Sonic Labs (Japan) Eminent be or Ultra fitted..

In engineering terms, a SOTA direct drive platform, one of the finest engineered tonearm designs so far produced, and the cartridge is simply Japanese mastery.

Maybe also the "Thales" tonearm?

The Voxativ Pi http://www.voxativ.com/eng/
Not due for release for another couple of months it seems but hopefully offers a cheaper entry into the single driver world.

Well for a start there is a difference in the ABILITY to rip !

I have a box of 60 Teldec Bach cantatas CDs and both dBPoweramp on my computer and Itunes on my Mac got stuck completely on any I tried ! but no problem for the excellent Weiss MAN301

http://www.kenrockwell.c...hone-5/audio-quality.htm

This guy has evaluated with detailled measurements the headphone output from his iphone 5. He says its excellent and would make a great source, jitter etc being very low.
