I for one will be looking forward to the science that this project will produce.
In many ways the JWST is a fitting successor, but not a direct replacement for the HST as it will operate at slightly different wavelengths.
First 'light' has been achieved now that it has reached L2 but early days.
With superior detector technology and vastly superior collector area, it will dig deeper into the cold dark distant universe.

It is a mind boggling engineering feat. I am just so glad it didn't blow up on the launch pad. With all the other technological advances mankind has made, having to resort to strapping a rocket to things seems like a game of chance. I presume the engineers involved are rather more confident than I am about a safe departure!

It was a tense time in our household following this and the launch was the highlight and trumped Christmas day celebrations as we were following it so closely; my wife was fine with this as she is interested in this and astronomy as well, daughter too.
A pleasant distraction against the problems my family unit are facing atm.
The tab Here is the first one open on my internet browser.
Can't wait for the science to start s myself I am interested in the formation of the first super massive stars and would have been my research had I chosen to read astronomy and not engineering at college.
