I note with interest that Graham Audio now lists the LS5/5 among their newer releases.
This is a design from the pen of Derek Hughes.
One of his first designs for Spendor was the SA3 a large two way using a modified BCIII bass unit and the Audax 34mm dome.
The LS5/5 original influenced the design of the Spendor S100 and SP100 designs.
Now that Graham has released the LS5/5 things have come full circle.
This is one speaker I would like to get to liste to.

When some kind of new? or normality is restored, or whatever, I hope to get to listen to the Graham, LS5/5 the 5/8 and the 5/9s Some say the BBC LS5/5 was the last of the truly neutral BBC monitors?
I know that the Spendor S100 which was launched right at the end of the 80s was influenced by the BBC LS5/5 so will be interested to listen to the LS5/5, in particular. The S100 was a speaker that I have owned liked and wished I kept hold of, so well balanced in many areas and not majoring in any one specific area.
The Spendor S100 remains a good loudspeaker.

I'll probably get excommunicated from the forum for this, but, hey, it's the internet and you don't know where I live to come after me with the pitchforks and the flaming torches...
Whisper it quetly, but I've never really "got" the BBC sound. I'm sure I haven't heard it done "properly" but when I've heard it I've just been bored. Neutral, yes, polite, yes, but I like listening to music not just newsreaders. Neutral also seems to mean flat, un-dynamic, un-rhythmic, un-communicative, lots of "un-"s. I wanna hear, for example, *why* Band X (insert name here) were known for their live shows. I don't want everything portrayed as A Popular Beat Combo, m'lud.
So shoot me now :-)

Pete - Consider yourself shot.
Next time you come over here, I'll make you listen to my Falcon LS3/5a pair.
Wasn't Pete Thomas of PMC an ex-BBC designer? I think the BB5's were his first post-BBC design. You've heard mine!

The BB5s were indeed PMC's first design. But PT was not *just* a designer, as you will by now have read in the current issue.
The speakers that PT is pictured standing by, coffee mug in hand, are the smaller brother of the BB5s, MB2s. I have a pair to play with here at the moment. Editors' decision, but there may be a review in the next issue.

What was interesting is the first BB5 which was shown at the Penta show as a prototype used the 15" ATC woofer I did ask PT which version was used but cannot remember which one.

I do not know, but wonder if Volt, the current 15" woofer manufacturer of PMC's choice, was a trading entity at that time. I guess PMC could also have used ATC's midrange, but they certainly brew their own in Luton now. Having lived with a pair - and the rest of the MB2 ensemble for a few weeks now - I have huge respect for the PMC 75mm mid. The '2 uses a customised SEAS tweeter, but I believe the '5 uses one built alongside the 75mm mid in Luton.

Volt was certainly about when PMC was starting out but didn't make the bigger drivers above 10" at that time
